Custom Crowns to Protect and Restore Your Teeth
What Are Dental Crowns?
Is a cracked or damaged tooth causing you trouble? A dental crown, also called a tooth crown or cap, is a custom-made restoration that covers the entire visible part of your tooth. It restores the tooth’s shape, strength and appearance while protecting the natural tooth underneath. Whether you need a gold, porcelain or zirconia crown, we’ll help you choose the right option for your tooth and your smile.

What are dental crowns used for?
Crowns restore teeth that are cracked, broken, worn down or weakened by decay or a large filling. They’re also used to protect teeth after root canal treatment, restore dental implants and support dental bridges.
How much does a dental crown cost?
The cost depends on the crown material, the condition of your tooth, any additional treatment needed and your insurance coverage. After your exam, we’ll provide a detailed estimate and explain your options before treatment begins.
Does dental insurance cover crowns?
Many dental insurance plans cover part of the cost of crowns when they’re needed to restore a damaged tooth, but coverage, deductibles and annual maximums vary by plan. We’re in-network with most PPO plans and can help you check your benefits before treatment.
How long does it take to get a dental crown?
Getting a dental crown usually takes two visits. At the first, we prepare the tooth, take an impression and place a temporary crown. Your permanent crown is custom-made, usually over a couple of weeks. At the second visit, we check the fit and color before securing it in place.
Does getting a crown hurt?
We use local anesthesia to numb the area and help keep you comfortable during treatment. Some sensitivity to hot and cold may last a couple of weeks afterward, while gum tenderness usually fades within a few days. If you experience severe or persistent pain, contact us. Feeling anxious? Ask us about our sedation options.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Often, especially for back teeth that handle more chewing pressure. A crown helps protect a tooth after root canal treatment from further damage. However, not every tooth needs one. We’ll recommend the right restoration based on the tooth’s location and condition.
How damaged can a tooth be and still get a crown?
A crown needs enough healthy tooth structure for a secure fit. In some cases, a damaged tooth can be built up to support a crown. If it can’t be saved, we may recommend extraction and replacement with a dental implant or bridge. The sooner you have a damaged tooth examined, the more options you may have to preserve it.
How long do dental crowns last?
Dental crowns last 5 to 15 years on average, and many last much longer with good care. Daily brushing and flossing, regular checkups and avoiding habits that damage teeth can help extend your crown’s lifespan.
How do I care for my dental crown?
Brush twice a day, floss daily and keep up with regular dental checkups. Avoid chewing ice, hard candy and other very hard or sticky foods. If you grind or clench your teeth, let us know so we can help protect your crown.
