How Sedation Dentistry Works at Our Office
1. Find the Right Sedation Option
We offer two types of sedation dentistry: nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation. Dr. Lotfi recommends the appropriate option based on your level of dental anxiety, treatment needs, health history, current medications, and other individual factors.
3. Relax During Treatment
Nitrous oxide is breathed in through a small mask, while oral sedation is taken as prescribed medication. Both are used to help you feel calmer during your procedure while remaining conscious. Local anesthesia may also be used when needed to numb the treatment area.
2. Prepare for Your Appointment
We’ll give you instructions based on the type of sedation you receive. If you’re having oral sedation, you’ll need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
4. Recover After Sedation
Recovery depends on the type of sedation used. Nitrous oxide typically wears off quickly after the gas is stopped. Oral sedation can affect you for several hours, so plan to rest at home and follow the aftercare instructions provided by our team.
