How Dental Bonding Works at Our Office
1. Consultation and Shade Matching
Dr. Lotfi will examine your teeth and talk with you about what you’d like to improve. He’ll make sure the tooth is healthy and that bonding is the right option for you. If it is, we’ll choose a resin shade that blends with your natural teeth.
2. Preparing the Tooth
We gently roughen the surface of the tooth and apply a conditioning liquid, which helps the resin bond securely. Because bonding is applied to the surface, little to no natural enamel needs to be removed.
3. Applying and Shaping the Resin
The tooth-colored resin is applied and carefully shaped to match the look of your surrounding teeth. A special curing light is used to harden the resin, and additional layers may be added and cured as needed.
4. Finishing and Polishing
Once the resin has hardened, we trim and refine the shape, check your bite and polish the surface for a natural finish.

How much does dental bonding cost?
The cost depends on how many teeth are being treated and how much reshaping each one needs. Dr. Lotfi will review your options and explain the expected cost before treatment begins.
Does insurance cover dental bonding?
Coverage depends on your plan and the specific procedure. Our team will help you review your PPO benefits before treatment. If you don’t have insurance, ask us about our in-office discount plan.
How long does dental bonding last?
Dental bonding typically lasts around 5 to 10 years, depending on where it’s placed and how well you care for it. Over time, it may need to be touched up or replaced, and regular checkups help us keep an eye on it.
Does dental bonding hurt?
Most cosmetic bonding doesn’t require anesthesia, and patients usually find it very comfortable. Because the resin is added to the surface of the tooth, there’s typically little to no drilling involved.
What’s the difference between dental bonding and veneers?
Bonding uses tooth-colored resin that’s shaped directly on your tooth, usually in one visit. Veneers are custom-made shells that cover the front of the tooth. Porcelain veneers generally last longer than composite bonding and resist staining better, while bonding is a simpler, more affordable option for smaller changes.
What are the downsides of dental bonding?
Bonding can chip if you bite hard objects, and it may pick up stains from coffee, tea or tobacco over time. Dr. Lotfi will let you know if another option would suit your goals better.
Can bonded teeth be whitened?
No, bonding resin doesn’t change color with whitening treatments. If you’d like a brighter smile, it’s best to complete teeth whitening before bonding, so we can match the resin to your new shade.
How do I care for bonded teeth?
Brush twice a day, floss daily and keep up with regular dental visits. Avoid biting on ice, pens or fingernails, and limit stain-causing drinks like coffee and tea to help your bonding look its best over time.
